We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2025 IIOA Conference in the Maldives. Under this "Additional Information" section, we are providing some travel, accommodation and various other information to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable stay.

It is worth noting that Friday and Saturday form the weekends in the Maldives. Furthermore, there are prayers at noon on Friday.

Visa

There is no visa restriction for 30 days for all nationalities for tourists only.

Travel Declaration

The Traveller Declaration is a self-declaration form that is FREE of charge and should be submitted directly through the IMUGA portal. Please refrain from filling out the form on any other website, as they promote scams.

All travellers must submit the Traveller Declaration within 96 hours of their flight time, both on arrival and departure.

Mobile services

Prepaid SIM cards are available from two mobile service providers at the airport. The SIM cards can be used for local and international call and for data.

Currency

The Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) is the local currency. All major credit cards are accepted in the country.

Taxes

A Tourism Goods and Service Tax (TGST) of 16% is levied on all goods and services at tourist establishments. A Green Tax of US$ 6.00 per person per day is payable for guests staying at integrated tourist resorts, resort hotels and other tourist establishments. Tourists who stay in local island guesthouses and hotels with more than 50 registered rooms are similarly subject to a Green Tax of US$ 6.00 per person per day. The Green Tax for tourists who stay in local island guesthouses and hotels with 50 or less rooms is US$ 3.00 per person per day.

Alcohol

Import of alcohol by individuals is not permitted. However, alcohol is available at all the resorts.

Clothing and culture

Cotton clothes suit well with the hot tropical climate of the Maldives. Tourists are expected to respect local culture and dress modestly when visiting or staying on inhabited islands. Sandals are ideal, as you may want to open, slip them off and go barefoot.

The Maldives is home to just over half a million people with unique culture and traditions. These are heavily influenced by various cultures around the rim of the Indian Ocean, the Maldivian culture, craft and traditions have been shaped by the island environment and the surrounding seas. The Dhivehi language of the Maldives is an Indo-Aryan tongue with its roots in Sanskrit. Dhivehi is the language of the Maldivian people. The current script, Thaana, is unique and was developed from Arabic numerals around the 16th century. Islam is the predominant religion in Maldives, with Maldivians celebrating Muslim festivals and following the Islamic calendar. When visiting local islands, it is important that women keep their shoulders and knees covered in order to respect the local culture.

Electricity

On the Maldives, power plugs and sockets (outlets) of type D and type G are used. The standard voltage is 230 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.
