Conference ExcursionIntroductionIt is an honoured tradition in any IIOA conference to hold an excursion. The conference excursion is one of the conference highlights and enables participants to catch-up, reminisce, talk shop and make new networking with new friends in an informal atmosphere while enjoying the local attractions. The following excursion packages and itinerary outlines serve as a guide for participants to choose during the Conference Registration Process. Notice that itinerary may slightly change subject to the final arrangement between LOC and tour providers. There are three (3) different excursion packages to be chosen by the participants. The registration is made based on first come first served basis. Please indicate your preference during the Conference Registration Process . TOUR A: INDULGE WITH THE NATURELangkawi Mangrove Kilim UNESCO GeoparkThe Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark was awarded its status in 2007 and is known as the first Global Geopark in Southeast Asia. Blessed with an abundance of natural wonders such as ancient rock formations, dramatic mountain peaks, and a wealth of exotic flora and fauna, the park offers sights you shouldn't miss when in Langkawi. Hop on a boat and discover secluded coves and beaches with us! Mahsuri MousoleumWalking around in Makam Mahsuri, you will be amazed by the artistic and classical Malay architecture. There are several traditional Malay wooden houses in the mausoleum where some serves as a mini museum, some unoccupied. Further inside, you will be able to see a well – the Mahsuri Well and you can even buy the processed well water at merely RM 1.50 per bottle. Besides, portraits of Mahsuri’s descendants of the seventh generation are also being displayed in a board, near to the well. Thus, visitors can learn more about her family here. There are different versions of stories and colorful illustrations in both Malays and English languages, telling how Mahsuri was being accused of adultery and executed. TOUR B: HOVERING THE SKY OF LANGKAWILangkawi Sky Cab experienceSkyCab gives you more than one unique experience. Be informed, SkyCab is located at the oldest part of South East Asia and the first to emerge from the ancient sea and estuary! That’s something to give a goose bump if you can get the gist. Come and experience it yourself. The Base Station is conveniently located at the foothill of the Machincang mountain. From here, visitors will be taken up to the cool Machincang mountain via the cable car system. The ride will be an exhilarating experience for everyone to enjoy. You will also be able to catch a glimpse of the flora and fauna that surrounds the area Triple the fun at Skyrex, Skydome,3D art LangkawiApart from the exciting skycab activity, participants will also be able to experience the whole new experience of SkyDome, SkyRex and also 3D Museum, which are all located in the same area. Before commencing your skycab journey, visitor will be able to go in the skydome, where it woulfd reduce waiting hastle during peak period. Other than that, visitor will also have the opportunity to experience the SkyRex; a simulation ride with 3D environment produced on surround-screen. Finally, visitor will go to 3D art Langkawi,Located within the vicinity of Oriental Village, with 21,000 square feet of build up, it features more than one hundred 3D interactive paintings, artistically painted by a group of talented international artists. TOUR C: EXQUISITELY TRADITIONALLangkawi Crafts ComplexThe architecture of the complex is adorned with Islamic motifs elements emphasizing on decorative geometric designs on the walls detailing that blend well with a Malay architectural design accessories. The Langkawi Craft Complex houses a collection of various local craft products including the iconic Langkawi crafts products for sale. At the same time, visitors have the opportunity to browse through the Heritage Museum and the Customs & Wedding Museum within the Langkawi Craft Complex to appreciate the heritage craft products and the local wedding customs on display. Apart from engaging in interactive craft activities, visitors have the opportunity to record beautiful moments at the "Dataran Tangga Seribu" (A Thousand Staircase Square), one of the tourism icons at the Langkawi Craft Complex Laman PadiLaman means field and Padi stands for rice in Malay. So Laman Padi essentially means rice field. This vast open complex comprises of number of rice fields herb gardens and galleries or museums where the process and evolution of rice cultivation & harvesting in Langkawi is exhibited. So if you like agro tourism, lush greenery and want to spend some time with the nature and at the same time understand about how rice is cultivated which is the primary product of export for Malaysia, then this will be a great place to visit and spend couple of hours or even more.
