Advice to IIOA airport travelers:

For direct flights, one of the DC area's two international airports is Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI). From BWI you can get to Alexandria rather inexpensively: first by taking a MARC train from BWI to Washington, DC's Union Station (about $6.50) and then from Union Station you can take the DC metro system to the Metro station at Reagan National Airport (about $2.00) from which a shuttle van will be running regularly to our hotel (every half our on the quarter hour). Alternatively you could take a taxi from Union Station to our hotel ($30 plus tip ) or the full distance from BWI to to the hotel ($70 plus tip). For van service from BWI, our hotel recommends Supershuttle, which costs $48 for the first person and $12 for each additional person up to a total of 10. Advanced BWI shuttle reservations and pre-payment are recommended by the Supershuttle, although making the arrangement while entering U.S. customs may be sufficient.

The main international airport is Washington's Dulles International Airport. There is no rail system from Washington-Dulles to Alexandria, but a bus is available that will take you to the Roslyn station of the Metro system ($3). From there you can take the Metro to Reagan National Airport ($2) from which our hotel's van runs every half hour on the quarter hour. A taxi ride would cost on the order of $55 plus tip. Supershuttle van service, which is recommended by our conference hotel, would cost $35 for the first person and $10 for each additional person up to a total of 7. Advanced Washington-Dulles shuttle reservations and pre-payment are recommended by the Supershuttle, although making the arrangement while entering U.S. customs may be sufficient.

If you wish to, you may be able to arrange a flight that gets you into Reagan National Airport, which supports domestic flights only. the hotel provides regular shuttle service (every half hour on the quarter hour) from the airport's Metro station. It is about 5-10 minutes by taxi to our hotel.
